Carver’s Kionna Gaines Commits to Clemson Basketball
GAINES HELPED CARVER WIN 4A GHSA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2019
The Carver Tigers girls basketball team has a lot to be proud of from winning a GHSA 4A State Championship in 2019 to now producing a guard that announced her verbal commitment to play for Clemson starting in (2021-22). Kionna Gaines announced her Division 1 commitment to the Tigers on Thursday.
As a junior at Carver, Gaines averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and during her sophomore campaign, she helped the Tigers win a state title.
Gaines narrowed down her college choices to six Division 1 offers, including Kentucky, Clemson, Florida, Purdue, Georgetown and Southern Mississippi. Clemson was the best fit.
“Clemson felt like home to me. I felt like it was the best fit for me, and I could see myself playing with them. You know, getting along with the coaches and teammates. I feel like the coaches do care about me a lot. I feel like when I get there I can make history.”
The guard will bring a lot of athleticism, speed and defensive awareness to Clemson.
“Well you know, they like to get up and down the court. At Carver, we play a fast pace and we’re all about defense, so you know that’s the same thing the coaches want at Clemson.”
