Carver’s Diamond McGilberry Signs to Savannah State Basketball
MCGILBERRY AVERAGED 7 POINTS, 3 REBOUNDS AND 2 ASSISTS HER SENIOR SEASON
The Carver Tigers graduated two seniors this year, including outside shooter Diamond McGilberry. The guard signed to play basketball at Savannah State University where she plans to study nursing.
The former WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week has good vision on defense and a great shot from the three-point line, that’s why McGilberry will wear number three at Savannah State. During her senior season at Carver, McGilberry averaged 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. The guard can’t wait to contribute to Savannah State this upcoming season.
“I just loved how, when I spoke to the coach I just felt like Savannah State was home even though I didn’t get to go visit,” said McGilberry. “They liked my defense, but he also liked that I’m an all-around player.”
McGilberry played one season at Carver, and she made a huge impact for their playoff team. While games were fun, she is going to miss her teammates the most.
“I’m going to miss the practices only because my teammates made them fun. Without them the practices would be hard, very hard.”
The 5’5″ guard is thankful for her family. They’ve helped her play AAU travel ball, work out at the gym and do defensive 1-on-1 drills. Her mom was good at basketball in high school and had this advice.
“Put in the work and be confident in everything that you do,” said McGilberry. “I say they’ve been behind me 100 percent and they never gave up on me. They’ve always motivated me.”
