Pope Francis Denounces Racism As Sin
POPE FRANCIS CONDEMNED THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD AS TRAGIC AND DENOUNCED RACISM AS A SIN
(CNN) – Pope Francis is calling the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer “tragic.”
And he says he’s praying for him and “all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism.”
The Pope addressed Floyd’s death during his weekly prayer at the Vatican on Wednesday, after an eighth night of protests across the U.S.
He also said we cannot turn a blind eye to racism, and yet we must recognize the violence is self-destructive and self-defeating.
The pontiff added “nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost.”
