Alabama Offensive Lineman Javion Cohen Packed and Ready for Tuscaloosa

THE FOUR-STAR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN PLANS ON LEARNING ALL FIVE POSITIONS ON THE ALABAMA LINE

The NCAA will allow voluntary, on-campus practices as early as June 8, 2020. On Friday, May 29 the league released a detailed plan, The Resocialization of Collegiate Sports: Action Plan Considerations, to help schools bring athletes back to practice.

Phenix City Central 4-star offensive lineman Javion Cohen is excited for his freshman season with the Crimson Tide. He originally marked the calendar to arrive on campus May 26, but COVID-19 pushed the date back to June 1st.

“We’re going to go to school and we’re going to get tested. Workout groups will be smaller. We’re not doing summer classes, we’re doing online classes in the dorms.

Cohen plans to learn a lot this summer before the fall season to become a young leader on the offensive line.

“You know, everybody has got to know the playbook, and it’s even more impressive when freshmen know the playbook. Learning the calls for all five positions. Being a versatile player, knowing how to play all five.

The 6’5”, 350 pound offensive lineman has improved his squat to 450 pounds and can bench press 350.

“I think I really tried to beef it up a little bit more because I felt like I was underweight a little bit.”

For his size Cohen has a high motor, and it’s backed up with a knowledge for the game. Cohen never allowed a sack playing on varsity for the Central Red Devils.

“I believe I’ve got a lot of intelligence when it comes to deciphering the defense to find out what they’re going to do in the plays. I play with a lot of athleticism.”

There will be a new normal when it comes to voluntary workouts and social distancing, but the mentality stays the same at Alabama.

“I’m looking forward to getting absolutely wrecked this summer, so in preparation for the season. I know that a lot of people don’t look at it that way, but you embrace the grind and respect the game it’s going to respect you back.

The Crimson Tide are expected to kickoff the season against USC on September 5 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
