Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Taking Place on June 7th with No Fans in Attendance

ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY EXECUTIVE VP & GM BRANDON HUTCHISON DISCUSSES THE FOLDS OF HONOR QUIKTRIP 500

NASCAR is one of the few live sporting events taking place in the United States right now.

Their first race in over two months took place last weekend at Darlington Raceway.

NASCAR postponed races on March 13th, just two days before the folds of honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

On June 7th, the nations top NASCAR drivers will return to one of the fastest tracks on the circuit.

“We’re ecstatic. Excited would be an understatement,” says Atlanta Motor Speedway Executive Vice President & General Manager, Brandon Hutchison. “We were on the doorstep of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 weekend. To have to press pause and not see the weekend play out was unsettling, but we’re ready to get back on track.”

To ensure the safety of everyone involved, they are following strict guidelines on race weekend.

“When [drivers, race crews] get here they go through a testing process. There will be social distancing and there will be a lot of hand sanitizing stations that will be around the facility.”

Unfortunately, no fans will be in attendance.

“To know that they’re not going to be here live and watch with us in the stands is bittersweet, but at least we will have an opportunity to get racing back on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway. They’ll be able to watch from the comfort of their own living room.”

Last weeks NASCAR race in Darlington saw a 38% increase in TV ratings.

While fans won’t be there to cheer in person, the race on the track itself will look familiar.

“From a competition standpoint, I think you’re going to see the same speed, nose to tail, beating and banging racing action that you would always see at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It’s definitely a little different, no qualifying, no practice. Unload the car and go racing.”

A live sporting event that gives people a chance to watch something other than decade old sports reruns and coronavirus related headlines.

“It gives us the opportunity to push back everything else that might not be going right in our lives and enjoy live competition.”

The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 takes place on Sunday June 7th at 3pm Eastern.
