Immunity Against Covid-19
Research on Monkeys Shows Promise
A small study suggests recovering from covid-19 could possibly lead to immunity against re-infection.
The study from Boston’s Israel Deaconess Medical Center involved rhesus monkeys, which share a majority of their genes with humans.
Researchers infected the monkeys with the virus and they all later recovered.
More than a month later they were all exposed again to the virus.
But the researchers found they had all developed antibodies and had quote near complete protection against the virus.
The scientists stress more research is needed to determine if the results also apply to people and to examine how long the immunity will last.
