Nearly 3M Filed Jobless Claims Last Week

THE U.S. GOVERNMENT SAYS ANOTHER 3M AMERICANS FILED INITIAL UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS LAST WEEK; IT'S THE EIGHTH WEEK IN A ROW THE NUMBER FOR INITIAL CLAIMS DECREASED AFTER PEAKING AT 6.9M IN THE FINAL WEEK OF MARCH

(CNN) – The U.S. government says another three million Americans filed initial unemployment claims last week.

It brings the total number of people making first-time claims since mid-March to 36.5 million.

It’s the eighth week in a row the number for initial claims decreased, after peaking at 6.9 million in the last week of March.

Economists say the new number is relatively good news because it means things aren’t getting worse amid the coronavirus pandemic.
