3.8 Million File Unemployment Claims Last Week
ECONOMIST SURVEY PREDICTS ANOTHER 3.5 MILLION JOBLESS CLAIMS TO COME THURSDAY
(CNN) – Millions more Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, as the coronavirus crisis continues to weigh on the us economy.
The U.S. Department of Labor says first-time claims for unemployment benefits totaled 3.8 million in the week ending April 25, after factoring in seasonal adjustments.
Without those adjustments, which economists use to account for seasonal hiring fluctuations the raw number was 3.5 million.
That brings the total number of first-time claims to 30.3 million over the past six weeks.
Claims have fallen each of the last four weeks, a sign that at least things aren’t getting worse.
