News Director

WLTZ First News (NBC and CW) in Columbus, Georgia is looking for an entrepreneurial News Director.

Columbus is located 90 quick miles from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It’s home to the world’s largest span of urban white-water rafting going through the heart of the city. Auburn University is located in the DMA too. It’s a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Our station has a growing news room and we are looking for a News Director that wants to lead by example. We need a driver that wants to win and wants to coach their players to win. We need a strategic thinker, a news junkie, someone that has experience shooting, writing, editing, and producing. And, if you have the ability to be on-air, that’s a plus too. We need someone that likes to have fun because we like to have fun, that cares about their people because we care about our people, that understands everything about the digital and social media realm because we don’t.

Do you love news and working with fun people? Do you have enterprising news ideas and the moxie to see them through? Does the thought of growing in an up and coming small news department excite you? If so, we’ve got a job for you. WLTZ-TV NBC 38, is looking for a hard-working team player with an eye and an ear for news to take on the role of News Director. The ideal candidate needs to have experience in broadcast television news and understand journalistic ethics and principles. The candidate must be capable of independent work and possess excellent problem-solving skills. The right person will be an assignment editor, web content producer, news director and coach all rolled into one. You must be familiar with social media like Facebook and Twitter and able to update and create for these types of platforms. You will be working with a variety of different people and you must be able to adapt to different personalities while working in a stressful but exciting environment. Five years’ experience shooting, writing, editing, and managing news content is preferred.

If you like the idea of creating local content, you’ll love this job. We have an hour-long daily talk show and a half-hour daily southern football show. What ideas do you come with for creative and interesting content?
