Women’s Basketball To Host USC Aiken in PBC Quarterfinals

The 2020 Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball bracket was officially released Sunday afternoon by the league office.

After going 13-7 in league play, the Lady Cougars earned the fourth-seed and the right to host a quarterfinal game inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Columbus State will take on fifth-seeded USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday, March 4.

No. 22 Lander, who captured the regular-season title with an 18-2 PBC record, will be the top-seed in the tournament. The Bearcats have the inside track to host the PBC Tournament semifinals and finals as the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round will host the final four teams on March 6 and 7.

Columbus State (18-8) is the lone women’s program in the conference to appear in all 29 PBC Tournaments. The Lady Cougars have won five championships (2000, 2001, 2014, 2015, 2017) with eight championship game appearances. In 2019, CSU made a run to the title game before falling to UNG.

The winner of the PBC Tournament will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Cougars were ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Southeast Regional rankings.
