Lanett Loses State Championship Heartbreaker in Head Coach Richard Carter’s Last Game

AHSAA Class 1A State Championship

Pickens County 57, Lanett 55

The Lanett Panthers punched their ticket back to the AHSAA State Championship for the first time since the (2017-18 season). The Panthers had won the Class 2A State Title three years in-a-row (2016, 2017 and 2018). This State Championship marked Richard Carter’s last game, retiring as the Head Coach after 49 years of coaching. Carter finished his career with 716 wins.

AHSAA Class 7A State Semifinals

Central 42, Hoover (Defending State Champions) 58

The Central Red Devils finished their season (21-8) and graduate eight seniors. Head Coach Carolyn Wright will be inducted into the AHSAA Hall of Fame Class of 2019 on March 18, 2020 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center. She will join her husband, Bobby, in the HOF.
