Drive By Shooting In Broad Daylight Leaves One Dead
Robert Grear Identified As Shooting Victim On Brighton Road
Columbus Police are investigating a drive by shooting that left one man dead. The incident happened just a few miles from our Buena Vista Road studio on Brighton Road. Patrol officers responded shortly after two o’clock to find one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
At least one neighbor near the intersection of Brighton Road and Quincy Drive saw the deadly drive by according to investigators. Robert Grear was shot as he walked down Brighton Road in broad daylight. Grear was pronounced dead in the emergency room from multiple gunshot wounds at 2:38 pm Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said.
Neighbors told First News gunfire is a common occurrence in the area. (Reporter) Then you weren’t surprised.. “Hell no! They pop a gun like every thirty minutes,” Larry Butler said.
Homicide detectives spent the afternoon scouring the neighborhood, knocking on doors hoping to find other witnesses to the shooting. Investigators aren’t sure how many people were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting and don’t have a description of the suspect yet.
The murder marks the 9th homicide investigation so far this year. Columbus is averaging six homicides per month now, an alarming trend to the Public and the powers that be. If you have any information about this incident police would like to hear from you.
