Report Shows “Significant Risks” To 2020 Census
REPORT FROM THE NONPARTISAN GAO LISTS NUMEROUS RISKS TO THE 2020 CENSUS
(CNN) – The non-partisan government accountability office is warning of “significant risks” to the 2020 Census.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney issued a statement on Wednesday detailing the report and saying lawmakers are holding a hearing on the issue.
Maloney highlighted various concerns the GAO cited regarding Census preparation.
Those concerns include inadequate recruitment and hiring, missed target dates, and significant cybersecurity challenges.
Maloney emphasized that the census is just weeks away.
Overall, the GAO found that the risks it identified could “adversely impact the cost, quality, schedule, and security of the count.”
