658 Women Die A Year Due To Pregnancy, Childbirth
A NEW GOVERNMENT REPORT SHINES LIGHT ON THE PREGNANCY-RELATED HEALTH RISKS WOMEN FACE
(CNN) – The rate of women who die from pregnancy or childbirth remains steady, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2018, 658 women died while carrying a child or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy.
That breaks down to just over 17 deaths per 100,000 live births.
However, the findings say there’s racial and age-related disparities for maternal deaths.
Researchers say black women are about three-times more likely to die than white and Hispanic women.
Also, women who are 40 and older are eight-times more likely to die than women under 25.
Health officials also say most pregancy related deaths can be prevented without much expense or trouble.
