Strong to Severe Storms Today

TIMING: Afternoon into the evening

An approaching cold front will slam into warm, moist air from the Gulf today triggering possible strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon into the evening. Winds gusting to 40+ mph will kick in this morning before ramping up as we slide into the midday. The line is projected to weaken slightly, but this will still be a very dangerous situation.

The main concerns with be damaging winds up to 70+ mph and isolated tornadoes. These winds will be capable of knocking down trees and power lines.

The timing as of now: 3pm-8pm (2p-7p central) in our Alabama counties… 7pm-11pm in our Georgia counties… Keep in mind that these timelines can shift!

Periods of heavy rainfall are also expected with this line of storms. Isolated flooding, especially creeks and streams, is possible. Ponding of water on roadways and lower lying areas cannot be ruled out.
