Scholar Athlete of the Week: Carver’s Diamond McGilberry
MCGILBERRY HAS A 3.75 GPA AND LOOKS TO WIN HER FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP AT CARVER
Carver sharpshooter Diamond McGilberry is clutch from the arc, and Head Coach Anson Hundley has confidence in the senior.
“We built a lot of trust,” said McGilberry. “I felt like the trust was there as soon as we had that communication.”
The senior joined the defending state champions, the Carver Tigers, for her last year of high school ball. She is determined to find her role on this squad.
“I have a goal outside, so I’ll be out there 24/7…but I mostly practice my outer range.”
Just like basketball, school is a priority. Thanks to planning and dual credit classes, McGilberry is getting ahead in school.
“As hard as you work in class is as hard as you should work on this court, maybe harder.”
McGilberry has a 3.75 GPA, and plans to play college basketball while studying to become a pharmacist.
“Chemistry is my favorite because I like dealing with chemicals and elements.”
The 5’5″ guard is thankful for her family. They’ve helped her play AAU travel ball, work out at the gym and do defensive 1-on-1 drills. Her mom was good at basketball in high school and had this advice.
“Put in the work and be confident in everything that you do,” said McGilberry. “I say they’ve been behind me 100 percent and they never gave up on me. They’ve always motivated me.”
Congratulations to Diamond McGilberry, our WLTZ Scholar Athlete of the Week.
