Pope Lifts Secrecy Rules For Sex Abuse Cases
POPE FRANCIS HAS LIFTED VATICAN SECRECY RULES GOVERNING SEXUAL ABUSES CASES
(CNN) – Pope Francis issued a declaration to lift Vatican secrecy rules for sex abuse cases.
The Vatican made the announcement Tuesday on the Pope Francis’ 83rd birthday.
The move will allow the Catholic church to provide documents related to sex abuse cases to authorities.
This is already common in many countries but it’s not yet universal practice.
Victims will also be able to stay in the loop about the outcome of their cases at the Vatican.
The declaration leaves in place privacy rules around reporting sex abuse.
