Facebook Tells DOJ It Won’t Weaken Encryption
FACEBOOK TELLS BARR IT WON'T OPEN UP ENCRYPTION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
(CNN) – Facebook says it won’t weaken encryption on WhatsApp and Messenger.
End-to-end encryption makes it so that messages are only read by the sender and recipient and not a third-party.
The Department of Justice argues this would make it harder to catch criminals.
Attorney General William Barr asked Facebook in an open letter in October to create a backdoor for law enforcement to gain access to private messages.
Facebook said doing that would invite criminals to hack into their platforms and endanger public safety.
