Twitter Rethinks Plan To Delete Inactive Accounts
TWITTER SAYS IT WILL MAKE PLANS TO MEMORIALIZE ACCOUNTS OF DECEASED USERS BEFORE DELETING INACTIVE ACCOUNTS
(CNN) – The Twittersphere is getting their requests heard.
The social media platform says it’s now rethinking its plan to get rid of inactive accounts after pushback from users.
Some worried this change would mean that accounts of people who’ve died would get deleted.
Twitter said it hadn’t considered that outcome before.
The company now plans to figure out a way to memorialize accounts before removing the ones that haven’t logged in for at least six months.
When it does get around to putting that new policy into place, twitter said it will start with accounts in the European Union.
The account removals also aren’t expected to be a sudden purge.
They’ll be deactivated over several months, and Twitter is also reaching out to accounts at risk of being deleted.
