Scholar Athlete: Auburn High’s Omari Porter

Auburn High Senior Omari porter is gearing up for his biggest game of the season as they prepare to take on the Central Red Devils in the state semifinals. He doesn’t want Friday to be his last game in the blue and white.

“You want to keep playing high school football as long as you can and me being a senior it’s great to be around my teammates that I love so much,” Said Auburn High Senior Defensive Back, Omari Porter.

Omari is a captain on his team and lives for competition, including in the classroom.

“I like to be the best at whatever I do so in the classroom I strive to be the best,” says Porter. “Just that competitive mindset in my mind helps me to stay at the top of my classes.”

That competitive spirit has led to a 4.2 GPA and a commitment to Stanford University where he is going to play football and study medicine.

“The best thing for me was to go out to Stanford with all the medical resources they have, all the medical facilities that they have is great for me,” said Porter. “Then just the atmosphere around the Stanford university campus. Great minds think alike so being around the biggest and brightest minds is a big deal to me and that’s what ultimately made my decision.”

After college he wants to be an anesthesiologist, something he was inspired to do after attending a camp early on in his high school career.

“When we get to the camp anesthesiology is what stuck out to me and the way he explained it and went about his day-by-day it was really amazing to me and I just fell in love with it,” said Porter.

Congratulations Omari porter, WLTZ’s Scholar Athlete of the Week.
