Goodwill SR Hosts Veterans Job Fair

In honor of Veteran’s Day, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc. (Goodwill) along with Still Serving Veterans, Troy University, Georgia Department of Labor –Veteran’s Employment and Work for Warriors have partnered together to hold the Hiring Heroes Job Fair.

Veterans, military spouses and their dependents are encouraged to attend the career fair and meet with top employers and resource agencies from across the Chattahoochee Valley.

The Hiring Heroes event is set to take place on Thursday, November 14th at Troy University at 1510 Whitewater Ave. in Phenix City.

The job fair will start at noon and run until 4:00 p.m.

Nearly 1,200 jobs are available from a variety of industries. Top employers expected to attend include the East Alabama Medical Center, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Consolidated Government, Piedmont, Wells Fargo, Concentrix and many more.

In addition to hosting the annual Hiring Heroes event, Goodwill has recently launched a new veteran’s services program as part of their ongoing commitment to serve our nation’s veterans.

Services offered include resume development with a specific emphasis on converting a military resume into civilian and/or federal resumes.

Goodwill career counselors also coach and train individuals on effective interviewing and communications skills, including conducting mock interviews.

Outside of employment, there is also a focus on health care and other available resources that holistically support veterans and their families.

“Goodwill is all about work and connecting people to work,” says Goodwill President and CEO, Jack Warden. “Our veterans have made sacrifices for us and as they exit the military and look for new careers, we want to help them connect with those careers through job training, resume building and career coaching.”

As with all the other services Goodwill provides to the community, there is no cost to veterans and their families. These programs are all made possible through the donation of gently used clothing and household goods that are in turn sold at our 13 retail stores.

Anyone who is interested or in need of career services is urged to visit or contact their nearest Goodwill Career Center.

The Hiring Heroes Job Fair is free and open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Job seekers should come dressed and ready to interview with multiple copies of their resume in-hand.
