Cooler Weather Arrives

COOLDOWN FOR WEEKEND, WIDESPREAD FREEZE MIDWEEK NEXT WEEK

Friday will start out unFridaylike in the weather department – gloomy and overcast – before clouds decrease and the sun appears by afternoon just in time for the weekend. Highs today will be kept down in the 50s north of I-85 and 60s elsewhere as north wind ushers in much cooler air behind the cold frontal passage we had earlier this morning.

Clear skies and slackening winds will make for a chilly night, with lows in the 35-40 range common throughout the area. Dress warmly for high school football games tonight as temperatures will be around 50 at kickoff and falling through the 40s by the final whistle.

The weekend will be beautiful, albeit cooler than average. Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s Saturday will warm up to the mid to upper 60s Sunday, with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s for Sunday morning. All in all, a nice and sunny fall weekend is in store.

Clouds start to increase Monday, which will be our warmest day of the next eight with highs eclipsing the 70 degree mark in many areas. A chance of rainfall is in the cards Tuesday ahead of an Arctic cold front that will bring the first widespread freeze of the year. Lows Wednesday morning will be in the 25-30 degree range with some locations not getting out of the 40s for highs on Wednesday! Another freeze is possible Thursday morning before temperatures slowly moderate next Friday.
