Wife Sentenced For Murder of Daniel Brown
Testimony: Lisa Brown Had Multiple Lovers, Insurance Payout
This was the real life horror story of Daniel Lee Brown.
The 44 year old Fort Mitchell man served for 26 years with the National Guard deploying three times including a tour in Afghanistan only to be ambushed while he slept in his own bed by his wife Lisa Brown. Daniel Brown was well liked in East Alabama and Cottonton where he also worked for Mead Westvaco now WestRock.
Three years after his murder, Lisa Brown appeared in front of a Russell County Judge with a dramatically different look. Brown appeared to show no remorse as she stood face to face with Daniel Brown’s immediate family. “I can’t really comment on what her feelings are, I can tell you that it doesn’t appear to me that she’s shown much remorse if any,” Prosecutor Ken Davis said.
Brown pled guilty as part of an agreement and sentenced to 30 years in prison plus $8,000 in restitution as part of the plea deal. Family members confronted Brown during the victim impact statements in court calling her “evil” and the murder of Brown completely “senseless”.
The Russell County Prosecutor told the Judge Lisa Brown changed her story three times before admitting she killed Daniel. Initially she claimed Daniel committed suicide but the evidence didn’t add up and Daniel Brown was suffering from two gunshot wounds. According to court testimony, Lisa Brown had multiple lovers and stood to gain financially from an insurance policy.
So why the plea deal?
“This is a case in which there where allegations made that would probably result in a lesser included offense of Manslaughter being given to the jury and often that’s a quandary for some jurors. So the question is, is it worth the risk of going to trial when you’re getting a sentence that is in effect just like the maximum sentence,” Davis said.
Lisa Brown will become eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
