Tricks and Treats for Halloween Weather
MILD START, VERY COOL AND WINDY END TO THE DAY; COLDEST AIR SO FAR THIS SEASON FOR THE WEEKEND
Happy Halloween! The weather will be ghoulish today as big changes are in the offering. We’ll likely hit our high temperatures sometime in the midday to early afternoon across the viewing area with highs in the mid 70s to near the 80 degree mark. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may break out as well; while the northern half of our viewing area is in a marginal risk for severe weather as outlined by the Storm Prediction Center, I don’t think we’ll see much in the way of thunderstorm activity, although any of the heavier showers could bring the very strong winds aloft down to the surface on a very isolated basis.
A sharp cold front is currently working its way across Alabama, marked by temperature drops of 15-20 degrees in a matter of 30 minutes in some cases! The coldest air so far this season lies behind the front, with windy conditions and scattered showers as well. The front should begin to work its way through our area by midday, completely clearing the area by late afternoon. Temperatures will likely drop into the 50s behind the front and fall further into the 40s in some places by evening. Breezy northwest winds will push wind chill values into the upper 30s to lower 40s. Make sure the kiddos have warm outfits for trick or treating!
Skies will clear and winds will slacken a bit tonight, allowing temperatures to drop into the 30s over most all of the viewing area. A few select spots in Chambers, Troup, and Meriwether counties may see lows in the 32-34 degree range, and a freeze warning is in effect for the latter two counties tonight into early tomorrow morning.
Clear skies will be the rule through the weekend, with highs in the low to mid 60s and lows each morning in the mid 30s to lower 40s.
