Expert Insight for Children Online Safety

As the new school year is in full swing, many students receive their first cell phones.

Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) CEO and Founder, Stephen Balkam gave us some tips for how parents can keep their kids safe online.

FOSI is a non-profit organization working to make the online world safer for kids.

FOSI has created a Good Digital Parenting Initiative, which offers advice to help parents establish ground rules for safer and more responsible use of technology.

Balkham shared the following insight:

  • How to start a conversation with your kids about technology and WHY you need to keep that conversation going; It’s not a “one and done.”
  • How to set up amicable ground rules for the entire family to follow – parents AND kids.
  • FOSI’s Online Safety Contract road map, and how to personalize it for your own family.
  • How to have an active role in your children’s internet time, without ruling with an iron fist.
