Yanek Receives Third SEC Weekly Honor

Georgia’s Nicholas Yanek has earned his third weekly Southeastern Conference Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week honor following his performance at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem. Pa., over the weekend, according to a league announcement on Tuesday.

This marks the fourth SEC weekly cross honor for Georgia this season.  Junior Samantha Drop (Women’s Runner of the Week) and Yanek, a redshirt freshman, were both recognized by the SEC following the season-opening Bulldog Invitational in Athens that was held on Aug. 31.  Yanek also garnered the honor following the Commodore Classic on Sept. 14.

Yanek, a native of Bettendorf, Iowa, ran his third cross race as a Bulldog and was the team’s top finisher (34th overall) for the third straight competition at the 8k Paul Short Run.  He finished in a season-best time of 24:02.6 and was the third overall freshman to finish and first from the SEC.
