Game of the Week: Marion County vs. Manchester

The Marion County Eagles are looking to win back-to-back years against the Manchester Blue Devils.

“They beat us two years in a row,” said Marion County Head Coach Chris Kirksey. “Matter of fact last time we went over there they thumped us pretty good”

Manchester won the matchup in 2016 and 2017.

“We got a sour bitter taste in our mouth, so we ll come back strong,”said Marion County junior safety Jamal Sampson.

This Friday the Eagles will face the Blue Devils who are looking to take back the 4-A region battle. Manchester attacks on the ground with their wing-t offense.

“That game just really tells us where we are at, and what we need to work on during the season to get better,” said Manchester senior lineman and kicker Rodrick Ford.

The Blue Devils have prepared for Marion County’s speed on offense, especially their quarterback Trice McCannon.

“He’s a good dual threat,” said Manchester senior wide receiver and cornerback Nick Foster. “We are just trying to clean up everything on the offensive line and defensive line”

“I just call myself Tom Brady, so anything Tom Brady can do I can do,” said McCannon. “But I can run the ball. We got a lot of weapons returning, so I think it should be the same result.”

These 4-A teams need endurance with athletes that play on both sides of the ball.

“It’s a lot that goes into it,” said Foster. “Sometimes we come out here and do extra work just to be prepared.”

Kickoff is set for this Friday at 7:30 p.m. EST at Manchester High School.
