Northside Softball Undefeated (7-0) in Region Play
HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR POST-SEASON BOUND PATRIOTS
Now to high school softball. Once again the Northside Patriots are one of the top contenders in the state of Georgia. The Patriots are undefeated (7-0) in 1-AAAA region play, and they are hoping to make it the state championship game for the fourth year in a row. Northside won it all back in 2017.
Last season, Head coach Brandon Jenkins graduated six seniors, five of which were starters. Now he’s got two veteran pitchers, Ireland Cavanaugh and Raelee Weaver, and catcher Claire Cahalan to shoulder the load, as well as some young, up-and-coming talent.
“We actually start two freshmen this year (Savannah Bedell – OF/1B and Mary Beth Cahalan – C/1B). They bat one and two for us, and both of them are hitting over .400,” said Jenkins. “They’re having to fill some big shoes. They really stepped in and kind of filled some voids that we were really needing offensively.”
Up next, Northside takes the field at Columbus High School for their last region match of the regular season this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Patriots and Blue Devils are playing in their cancer awareness game.
