Cooler Weather Coming!
AFTER 100+ YESTERDAY, 80S COMING FOR THE END OF THE WEEK
We reached a high of 101 in Columbus yesterday, while Macon and Montgomery both hit a high of 103! We won’t see extreme triple-digit heat today, and hopefully not until next summer, but we will still see mid to upper 90s today. With low humidity values, however, heat index values, while high, won’t be dangerously high. Still, use common sense and take plenty of breaks today if doing anything outdoors.
An isolated shower or thunderstorm will dot the landscape today as a backdoor cold front moves through the area from northeast to southwest. It won’t be nearly enough to shake the intensifying drought conditions, but it will signal a change in the weather coming for the end of the week.
Once the front clears the area tonight, lows will be in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees tonight. Cooler weather is in store for the next few days with highs only in the mid to upper 80s. Widespread lower to middle 60s are on tap for overnight lows; a select few outlying areas may see low temperatures in the upper 50s!
All good things must come to an end, however. Warmer weather will return early next week, with high temperatures creeping back above the 90 degree mark.
