No. 21 Cougars Open Season

In its first action of the season, the 21st-ranked Columbus State University men’s golf team sits in 15th place at the Kiawah Island Invitational after 18 holes. The tournament is being held at the Osprey Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.

CSU shot a nine-over 297 as a team on Monday. Nineteenth-ranked USC Aiken leads the field after posting a 12-under 276 with Valdosta State (279), Lander (282), Mount Olive (282) and Clayton State (285) all sitting in the top-five.

Just seven strokes separate seventh place from the Cougars’ current 15th position on the leaderboard.

Junior Jordan Doull and freshman James Ashfield are both in position to grab top-15 finishes in the loaded field after Monday. The duo each posted a one-over 73, just three shots off the top-15 pace.

Sophomore Ronan Kleu also had a solid opening round shooting a two-over 74.

Also counting towards Columbus State’s team total was Luke Barnes . Barnes turned in a five-over 77 in his first collegiate round while senior Cole Cruickshank carded an eight-over 80 in his first action of the season.

Columbus State will tee off Tuesday morning at 9:10 a.m. to close out the two-round tournament.
