Uninsured Rate Rises For 1st Time Since 2009
REPORT FOUND MORE LOW-INCOME ADULTS AND CHILDREN WERE UNINSURED LAST YEAR
(CNN) – For the first time in nearly a decade, the number of uninsured Americans has gone up.
The Census Bureau reported Tuesday some 27.5 million people were uninsured last year.
That’s an increase of 1.9 million people.
It’s the first time that has happened in the U.S. since 2009.
The impact comes as fewer people are being covered by medicaid.
The report also found more children were uninsured in 2018.
That’s mainly due to a decrease in the number of kids covered by Medicaid and the children’s health insurance program, also known as Chip.
