Sweltering Start to the Week
DANGEROUSLY HIGH HEAT INDICES, SCATTERED STORMS TODAY
After a hot weekend, the beginning of the work week holds serve in terms of temperatures. Highs today will be in the middle to upper 90s. Coupled with high humidity, heat index readings will eclipse the 105 degree mark during the heat of the day. To that end, a Heat Advisory is in effect for today over much of the viewing area. Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids if exerting yourself outside this afternoon and early evening.
The difference in the weekend and today, however, is that the heat will be punctuated in some cases by scattered thunderstorms. Not everyone will see rainfall, but a lucky few will see a storm today to knock the edge off the heat for a brief period.
Scattered storms are also in the forecast Tuesday before the ridge reasserts itself over the area. Highs will stay in the mid to upper 90s all week.
A break in the hot weather may arrive by Saturday as a trough of low pressure breaks down the ridge, allowing for more in the way of showers and thunderstorms.
