Scholar Athlete: Smiths Station’s Tony Bond
TONY BOND HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR HIMSELF ON THE FIELD AND IN THE CLASSROOM
Smiths Station Senior Offensive Guard, Tony Bond has earned the right to be a captain on the field for his multiple reasons, including his discipline off the field.
“It’s about being a student-athlete. You have to love the sport, but you have to be smart in the classroom first,” says Bond. “What you do in the classroom effects how you do out here”
Tony has a 3.9 GPA while taking AP and CP courses. In the spring he hopes to graduate with an advanced diploma. He takes it upon himself to help his teammates perform better in the classroom.
“Sometimes people don t like to be smart in the classroom , they’re amazing athletes, but they don’t have it in the classroom. You have to push them and encourage them to have it in the classroom too,” said Bond.
As far as his dream school… “I really want to try to go to Auburn university like my sisters,” says Bond.
His older sisters have left big shoes to fill.
“Both my sisters graduated valedictorian of their class, so I’m just persevering to be like them,” said Bond.
His sisters experience at Auburn is encouraging him to follow in their footsteps.
“It’s more like a family atmosphere, you go there and get a connection between everybody.”
When he gets to Auburn, he’d like to study engineering and criminal justice.
Tony hopes his dream school helps him decide what his dream job would be. Congratulations Tony Bond, WLTZ’s Scholar Athlete of the Week.
