Deported Harvard Student Back On Campus

HARVARD UNIVERSITY SPOKEWOMAN: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WHO HAD BEEN DENIED ENTRANCE TO THE UNITED STATES IS NOW ON CAMPUS

(CNN) – A Harvard spokeswoman says a student previously blocked from entering the U.S. has arrived on campus.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection had said Ismail Ajjawi was deemed inadmissible to the United States based on information from the CBP inspection.

The Harvard Crimson newspaper initially reported that Ajjawi was a 17-year-old Palestinian resident of Lebanon.

The paper quoted a statement attributed to Ajjawi in which he described the incident.

He said he was held for roughly eight hours, that he unlocked his phone and laptop at an immigration official’s request and the official searched the devices.

According to the Crimson, Ajjawi was questioned about friends’ social media activities.

He was told some of those following him had political points of view opposed to the U.S.

CNN has asked CBP for a comment on how the case was resolved.
