Convicted Sex Offender Targets Bus Stops
Javonte Oden Charged After Exposing Himself To Underage Girls
A convicted sex offender is in police custody after multiple kids and parents allegedly saw the man identified as Javonte Oden engaging in similar acts that first landed him in jail.
According to court testimony police received multiple 911 calls last Monday morning August 19th in reference to a person exposing himself to juveniles at various bus stops off Old Cusseta Road.
Six witnesses reported seeing the same individual expose himself to children including two 12 year old girls and a 15 year old girl.
A Police investigator told the court Javonte Oden was picked out of a photo lineup from the children who witnessed the incidents.
Oden’s Public Defender challenged that method saying the kids could have easily picked his picture out of a photo lineup because he was the only one in the line up that lived in their neighborhood and would appear familiar to them.
But when police investigators interviewed Oden, he admitted he had a problem and requested help.
Public records show Oden is a registered sex offender in Muscogee County for reportedly gratifying himself in public , in front of children, similar to these most recent accusations.
The investigator told judge there was also surveillance video from the neighborhood that allegedly shows the person of interest, matching Oden’s description.
Judge Julius Hunter said he was deeply concerned Oden would attempt to re offend if he were out on bond and bound the case over to Superior Court.
