Lady Cougars Third, Cougars Fourth in PBC Preseason Poll

Both Columbus State University cross country teams were selected among the conference’s best as the Peach Belt Conference released the preseason coaches poll Monday.

The men’s team was voted to finish fourth while the women were tabbed third.

After finishing fifth at last season’s PBC Championship, the Cougars return seven runners, including All-PBC performers Charles Asouzu and Wright Calhoun.

Augusta (87) was selected as the preseason favorites with UNC Pembroke (80) sitting in second. Flagler (78) was voted third with CSU (64) and Georgia College (59) rounding out the top-five.

The Lady Cougars will be looking to build upon 2018 that saw them finish third at the PBC Championship, which was their best performance since 2013.

CSU brings back six runners from a season ago anchored by All-Conference runners Alli Hay and Macey Voorhies, who is also the reigning PBC Freshman of the Year.

Defending champions North Georgia (107) tops the poll with Flagler (94) right behind. Columbus State received a first place vote to finish with 92 points with Augusta (83) and Georgia College (80) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Both teams will take the course Sept. 7 with their lone home meet of the season, the Cougar Classic.
