Extreme Heat Making Outdoor Sports Riskier

THE CLIMATE CRISIS COULD MAKE IT MORE DANGEROUS TO PLAY SPORTS OUTDOORS

(CNN) – There’s a new report out examining the possibility that climate change could make it more dangerous to play outdoor sports.

The report came from the nonprofit science and news organization “Climate Central.”

It analyzed 239 locations in the United States.

It found that over the last four decades, 198 cities have seen an increase in the annual number of days with a heat index over 90 degrees.

And nearly a dozen U.S. cities saw an increase of at least four so-called “danger” days on average.

That’s when the combined heat and humidity makes it feel like it’s 105 degrees or hotter.

These conditions make it difficult for the body to cool itself.

Add in exercise and you could be at an elevated risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
