Trump Admin Rule Could Limit Legal Immigration
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION'S NEW RULE WOULD MAKE IT HARDER FOR LEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO GET GREEN CARDS AND VISAS
(CNN) – The Trump administration has announced a new regulation that could limit legal immigration in the U.S.
The so-called public charge rule would ensure immigrants can support themselves financially; making it easier to reject green card and visa applications.
And likely making it harder for low-income immigrants to come to the U.S.
Immigration advocates say this new rule goes far beyond what Congress intended and would discriminate against people from poorer countries, keep families apart, and prompt legal residents to forgo needed public aid.
The new rule takes effect 60 days from Tuesday, when it is published in the federal register.
