Heat, Humidity, Heavy Storms
SCATTERED STORMS MAY BE STRONG; HEAT INDEX VALUES 100+ LIKELY
TGIF! It will be another scorcher today throughout the area as the heat and humidity remains over us. Highs will be in the mid to perhaps upper 90s in some areas. Couple that with high moisture levels, and heat index readings may be in the 100-107 degree range during the peak heating of the day. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible, and with the intense heat making for very unstable air, the strongest storms may produce strong winds and perhaps some hail. All storms will be capable of very intense, nearly continuous lightning, and very heavy rainfall.
Slightly higher chances for storms are in store for Saturday, with a chance for rain all the way through next week. The heat cranks up even a couple of ticks hotter for the first part of next week with widespread mid to upper 90s for highs Monday and Tuesday; a locale or two may perhaps make a run at 100. A cold front approaches by Thursday, bringing rain chances up and knocking down the temperatures back to normal levels.
