Boat Slams Into Lake Oliver Marina

Four Passengers Ejected Including Children

A boat accident sent seven people to the local hospital Tuesday Afternoon.

Mutliple Law Enforcement Agencies responded to the scene at the Lake Oliver Marina just after 3:00 pm and just as heavy rain started to move into the area.

“Basically as you can see the boat left the water and ended up in the area where it came to rest. All seven passengers were transported to the hospital here locally for various injuries,” SGT Jeremy Bolen told First News.

Four passengers were ejected from the boat and onto the pavement.

All seven were rushed to Piedmont Hospital for treatment of various injuries including broken bones.

One person is in serious condition.

The family dog made it to safety too and was rescued off River Road where strangers showed up to look for the missing pet.

All aboard are expected to make a full recovery.

Meanwhile a special team of investigators are processing evidence from the scene.

“We brought in our Critical Incident Reconstruction Team or our CIRT team. They have a lot of training on reconstructing boat incidents in the state and so they’re the ones that we will be using to reconstruct this boat accident and try to determine what happened,” SGT Bolen said.

The Department of Natural Resources is the lead investigative agency handling the boat crash.
