Opelika Mayor and Committee Gives Update on Commission on Crime and Violence

In August 2018, Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller formed a commission to combat crime and violence in the city.

He formed four sub-committees: family, education, youth and resources.

Thursday, each committee head gave an update on where they are.

The committees are formed by city council members, the chief of police, citizens and leaders in the community.

Many ideas, goals and potential programs are forming out of these committees.

They will have a public forum in the next couple of weeks where they want to invite everyone in the community to come and give their input.

A start, the mayor hopes, to unite the community to address increased violence.
