Ryan Bliss named to Freshman All-SEC Team

Freshman second baseman Ryan Bliss has been named to the 2019 Freshman All-SEC Team, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Bliss, who led the Tigers in hitting (.288) and runs scored (24) in Southeastern Conference play, is one of just three position players named to the 12-man Freshman All-SEC Team.

The LaGrange, Georgia, native tied for the team lead in runs scored (41) and ranked tied for third or better in average (.277), hits (57), doubles (10), RBI (32) and stolen bases (10) in his first season on The Plains. He also finished the regular season ranked in the top five among SEC freshmen in runs, hits, doubles, games started, RBI and stolen bases.

Bliss was the only Tiger to play and start in all 55 games during the regular season and finished the year hitting .417 (15-for-36) in the final three conference series. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after going 6-for-12 with five runs scored and four RBI against Alabama. He also hit a game-tying home run in the sixth inning and scored the game-winning run in the 11th inning of the Tigers win in the regular season finale at LSU.

Bliss and the 8th-seeded Tigers (32-23, 14-16 SEC) open the SEC Tournament against 9th-seeded Tennessee (38-18, 14-16 SEC) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. CT at Hoover Met Stadium.
