Georgia right-hander Cole Wilcox has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

A 6-5, 232-pound native of Chickamauga, Ga., Hancock pitched a complete game two-hitter in his first career SEC start to beat Florida 4-1. He pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts, both career highs, as the Bulldogs completed a sweep of the Gators for the first time since 2006. For the year, he’s 2-0 with a 4.17 ERA in 41 innings with 48 strikeouts.

Wilcox, along with second baseman Ryan Bliss (Auburn), were the freshman honored by the SEC along with Cooper Johnson (Ole Miss) and Ethan Small (Mississippi State). Bliss helped the Tigers win a series over Alabama. Johnson was named the SEC Player of the Week as he led the Rebels to their first series win in Baton Rouge since 1982 while Small was the SEC Pitcher of the Week after he tossed seven hitless, shutout innings in a win at Texas A&M.

Georgia (37-12), now ranked No. 8 in the latest D1Baseball.com top 25 poll, returns to action on the road Wednesday when it faces Jacksonville State (25-21). First pitch will be at 7:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed on ESPN+ and available via the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
