Severe Thunderstorm Threat Tonight

Cold Start Easter Weekend

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3AM EASTERN; 2AM CENTRAL……

A squall line of intense thunderstorms, some severe with damaging winds, will press across the region tonight from west to east. Precautionary plans should already be in place, such as knowing where to go in a severe thunderstorm warning and outdoor lawn furniture being secured.  Given the fact that this initial squall line is disrupting the warm, very humid air along the Gulf Coast from arriving this far north, the prospects of a tornado are minimal.   That’s good news!  However, a secondary line of storms will develop overnight into Friday morning, and any thunderstorm can be accompanied with damaging winds, so extreme caution is advised.

Hit/miss showers and a thundershower can redevelop on the backside of our exiting storm system for Friday afternoon. However, a cooler gusty wind will also take shape.

Saturday will remain windy with times of clouds and sun; even the chance of a brief afternoon shower.

Easter Sunday starts chilly, but the afternoon will be quite nice.

The next threat to get wet will come with a shower and thunderstorm later next week. Stay tuned.
