Military Border Deployment Estimated To Top $500M

COST ESTIMATES FOR U.S. MILITARY BORDER DEPLOYMENT TO SURPASS $500 MILLION

(CNN) – Staffing the southern border with troops could cost upwards of $500 million this fiscal year.

That’s according to the Department of Defense.

The DOD gave the estimate in response to a series of questions from lawmakers.

The tally includes $350 million for deployment of National Guard troops.

Sending active duty troops to support Customs and Border Patrol cost the Pentagon $184 million up to January 31st of this year.

This is on top of nearly one billion dollars of repurposed Defense Department funding awarded Tuesday for constructing 57 miles of border fencing.
