Florence, Michael Retired As Hurricane Names
FLORENCE AND MICHAEL HAVE BEEN RETIRED AS HURRICANE NAMES AND WILL NOT BE USED FOR ANY FUTURE STORMS
(CNN) – Hurricanes Florence and Michael caused billions of dollars in destruction last year.
Due to the severity of the storms, those names will no longer be in rotation.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Florence and Michael have been retired.
People died from high winds and flooding after each storm hit the U.S. in 2018.
It is not uncommon for the names of hurricanes to be retired.
In a statement, NOAA said reusing either name would be insensitive to the areas affected.
