VFW Post 5228 Helping with Storm Relief in Lee County
Vets helping provide food and clothing through donation drive
One of the amazing things about our community is that when tragedy strikes, we always come together to help those in need and that’s exactly what the men and women of VFW Post 5228 in Smiths Station is doing. They are collecting food, water and other necessities to help those who were devastated by the tornadoes in Lee County. Not only are they helping those families now trying to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the wicked weather on Sunday, they are also helping provide meals for first responders that are providing assistance.
Tom Baltzell is the Commander of VFW Post 5228. “We are taking any type of items you can give. Personal hygiene, dog food, strollers, strollers, car seats, linen, blankets. Anything you think someone would be in need of, we are accepting it. Along with perishable items. “
Hank Sizemore, VFW Post 5228 Quartermaster, adds: “There have been several businesses out in the community that supported us. Most of it is personal people coming in and donating on their own and that’s been a huge help with us.”
Commander Baltzell says if there is anyone in need, they can come to VFW Post 5228 located at 9810 Lee Road 240 in Smiths Station or you can call 334-297-6394 to have them bring items to you. Plus, call that number if you would like to make a donation or just volunteer.
