Marion County Girls Basketball Team Wins First State Title in Program History

LADY EAGLES TAKE DOWN CALHOUN COUNTY 50-38 IN THE GHSA 1A-PUBLIC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Marion County girls basketball was looking to make history Thursday night in the GHSA 1A public state championship game, and they’ve been here before.

Last year they fell to Greenville. This time around they face off against Calhoun County.

Marion defeats the Lady Cougars 50-38 to win the state championship .

“The first state championship for Marion County girls, and especially with this bunch, it’s just special because they’re special,” says Marion County girls basketball head coach Fran McPherson.

“Going into this game it was nothing new like we’ve already been here before, so it was quite easy, it wasn’t nerve racking,” says Marion senior forward Ansley Whitley.

“It’s amazing. We were here last year, we didn’t end it the way we wanted to, but this year we ended it the way we wanted to and we are better off and we’re happy,” says Marion junior point guard Jameisha Williams.

The Marion County girls basketball team caps off a near perfect season with only one blemish on their record and they head back to Buena Vista, Georgia as your new GHSA 1A public state champions.
