HIGHLIGHTS: Opelika 31, Hazel Green 55

AHSAA 6A GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Opelika girls basketball team falls to Hazel Green 55-31 in the AHSAA 6A state championship.

This is the first time since 1986 that the Lady Bulldogs have made it to the state title game.

Senior guard Quala Walton led the way for Opelika with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Junior guard Ananda Hughley finished the game with 10 points.

Senior guard Marisa Snodgrass, for the Hazel Green Trojans, led her team with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals followed by Jaelyn Johnson with 13 points.

The Lady Bulldogs only graduate one senior this season and will have nine players return to next years team.

This is Hazel Green’s third state championship win in program history.
