IRS Analyst Charged In Cohen Bank Records Leak
IRS ANALYST CHARGED IN LEAK OF BANK RECORDS OF FORMER TRUMP LAWYER MICHAEL COHEN
(CNN) – An Internal Revenue Service analyst has been charged with disclosing confidential reports about the bank records of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.
The records showed Cohen sought to profit from his closeness to the White House.
The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Northern District of California charged the analyst with unauthorized disclosure of a suspicious activity report, also called a “SAR.”
Banks file them on any transactions that may be unlawful.
Cohen’s bank transactions became public last May.
That’s when lawyer Michael Avenatti posted a memo online outlining a number of payments to Cohen, from a company linked to pharmaceutical giant Novartis, a Russian Oligarch, AT7T, and others.
AT&T owns CNN, which prepared this report.
